I’m a firm believer in beauty care, but let’s remember to treat yourself also! While treating yourself should be reserved for every once in a while, there are a few beauty practices you should make a habit. As you get older (ugh), your body requires a little more care. Plus when you get older, you are able to splurge on items cause quality>quantity. I swear, it’s true. I’m not saying you should go out to Sephora and buy all the products you can hold, but know which ones to splurge on and which ones you can buy on the cheap.
Tame that mane, make it shine, wave, or whatever hair is supposed to do. No matter what type of hair you have, you have to keep it healthy and happy (hair has feelings too). I like to deep condition it once a week to keep it moisturized and strong. Aussi is my current go-to. They have plenty of options: one for color-treated hair, dry hair, etc. Another favorite is one Amika’s Nourishing Mask, which smells heavenly and works like a dream. The key is to focus the conditioner on the tips of your hair to work against split ends. Two other great benefits are fighting dryness and improving your hair health. Typically, you let it sit in your hair for about 5-10 minutes. I brush my fingers through after applying to make sure it gets everywhere. Rinse in warm water and get ready to touch the softest and healthiest hair ever.
Next tip is protecting your hair, lock it down. Your hair needs product and product will make you feel fancy. An all in one spray will do wonders for your hair. One bottle of spray can smooth your hair, moisturize, minimize frizz, protect against UV rays (great if your hair is colored), heat protector, safeguards color, and adds shine. My all time favorite is Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle spray. Another safe option is It’s a 10 Miracle Haircare Leave-in spray. So much in one bottle and all you have to do is spray it a few times after showering. Make sure you brush or tousle it so it spreads evenly throughout your hair.
Lastly, always, always, always remember to protect your hair before applying ANY kind of heat. This included blow drying your hair. If you use an all in one spray like I advise, you’re all set. If not, you need something so it doesn’t dry your hair out and damage it. Also, if you’re styling your hair I like to apply hairspray to it lightly so it holds the curls, waves, or whatever you’re doing to it.
Your skin is so sensitive. No matter what kind of skin you have, you need to take care of it. There’s no going back once your skin takes a turn for the once. So as you get older, you need to pay more attention to your skin cause it needs care. Taking care of your skin is as simple as keeping it clean and moisturized. A little exfoliating, buffing, priming also helps. Currently, I use a Clarisonic face brush and it literally changed my life. If you don’t want to do that, a simple face wash is just as good. You can also try a Konjac cleansing sponge. It kept my skin so smooth and really takes care of any dry or rough skin you have. Exfoliating 2-3 times a week will keep your skin supple and fresh. Be sure not to over exfoliate though. Same goes with moisturizing. It’s important to do and keep in your daily routine, but if you over-moisturize, your skin will be prone to oiliness and breakouts.
My favorite part of skin care is face masks. I apply one almost every week. Like face masks, it’s great to keep your skin moisturized and clear. There’s a face mask for almost every type of skin problem or need. Talk about baby butt soft skin.
I don’t need to say it, but you should know to drink lots of water. It’s the best thing for your skin, hello hydration!
