You Feel Warm, But He Doesn’t

Winter is harsh on women, especially when the things that keep them warm aren't appealing to men.

The winter is a tough time for fashion because it involves layers, thick material, and the harsh weather. You have to decide, what’s more important, being warm or looking good?

The top five winter styles men hate are puffy winter coats, uggs, fingerless gloves, fuzzy ear muffs, and leg warmers. All five are vital keys to a woman’s winter ensemble.

These stars don't care how they look, they just rely on the warmth of their puffy coats.

Puffy coats, I have to admit, are a bit ugly. They’re large, bulky, but they are so warm. A parka is something you hate to love, but love to hate. Men see them as a barrier, enveloping your body and leaving you to look like a puffy marshmallow. What they don’t understand is the key warmth they provide.

Uggs have been taking over the market for years in different colors and styles.

Uggs get mixed reviews from girls and boys alike. They’re ugly, we’ve all heard the ugg-ly joke. They are a bit bulky, but all that sheepskin is like heaven for chilly toes. Most men don’t realize their true warmth until they try them on, try getting them to do that. Sometimes I hate wearing uggs because then I look “basic,” but when it comes down to it, my toes need to be warm too.

Fingerless gloves, or hobo gloves keep the palm of your hand warm, just not your fingers.

Fingerless gloves, or hobo gloves as one of my friends calls them seem to have no real purpose. I love them because they aren’t constricting, but still keep a majority of the hand warm. I call them hobo gloves because sometimes homeless people can be seen wearing these fingerless gloves during the cold winters. Men call these gloves pointless because they claim that the gloves fail to meet their purpose, keep your hands warm. But in fact, the gloves keep your palm warm, which matters to me.

The 80s brought leg warmers out, but they're making their reappearance in a more current way.

Leg warmers emerged in the 80s, but in have reinvented themselves in a more fashionable way. Today women are wearing them inside riding boots and peeking out the top. In the 80s, leg warmers were worn with bright tights and oversized shirts. Today, they are an added level of warmth. To quote a friend, he claimed he could “cut arms off a sweater” and make them. He didn’t say that they were pointless, but just a waste of money.

Winter obviously isn’t my favorite fashion season, but there are ways to stay warm while still looking good. Like any fashion style, men and women will differ in opinions, but the decision is in your hands. Decide if you want to be warm and look warm, or look good and cold. Stay warm this winter ladies!
